This honor opens doors for students by providing access to future scholarship programs and workshops, the ability to have work publically displayed in the Art. Within the Awards' 29 categories—which include poetry, photography, sculpture, humor, editorial cartoons, and video game design—a record-breakingworks of art and writing were submitted for adjudication at the regional level this year.
Works awarded with a Gold Key are automatically judged at the national level. National Medals are given to students receiving awards at the national level. There are numerous scholarships available at the national level. Please click here to learn more.
Who can participate in the Awards? Students should submit in their current grade level.
Seniors who will graduate mid-term in December may participate. When do submissions open? How do I submit my work? Next, upload your submission and submit payment. Finally, print your submission form s. Students are encouraged to digitally upload submission forms. Can I submit multiple pieces in one category?
Can I submit both art and writing? You are welcome and encouraged to submit as many pieces you would like in as many categories as you would like. Do NOT submit the same work to multiple categories. Seniors may submit a work as an individual piece as well as part of a portfolio.
We do NOT encourage resubmitting works from previous years unless the work has undergone extensive changes. Seniors, however, may submit pieces that received awards from previous years as part of their portfolios. I am still creating my submission.
We highly recommend that you create an account as soon as possible when submissions open. After you have created your account, you can log back into the system at artandwriting. The deadline for submissions for NYC students is December 4.
Students are strongly encouraged to submit payment online through the Online Registration System through PayPal when submitting artwork.
Payment may also be submitted by check. All fee waivers MUST be digitally uploaded. When are the awards announced? Will I be notified if I do not receive an award?
